Terms & Conditions

Maidenhead Cycles · Maidenhead SL6 4SA

Effective from January 2025

General

These terms and conditions apply to all sales, servicing, and transactions carried out by Maidenhead Cycles, trading from Maidenhead, SL6 4SA. By purchasing goods or services from us, you agree to be bound by these terms.

Maidenhead Cycles is a retailer and repair workshop specialising in vintage and classic bicycles, parts, components, and cycling clothing. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under English law.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from a transaction with Maidenhead Cycles shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Sales of Goods

Bicycles. All bicycles sold by Maidenhead Cycles are described as accurately as possible. Vintage and classic machines are sold as used goods and will typically show signs of age and wear consistent with their history. Any known faults or defects will be disclosed prior to sale. We strongly encourage all buyers to inspect a bicycle in person before purchasing.

Parts & components. Vintage parts are sold as used unless otherwise stated. Compatibility with your specific bicycle is the buyer's responsibility. If in doubt, please ask us before purchasing.

Clothing & accessories. New clothing and accessories are sold as described. Sizing information is provided where available; please check before ordering.

Prices. All prices are in pounds sterling and are inclusive of VAT where applicable. Prices are subject to change without notice. The price at the time of agreement to purchase is the price that applies.

Payment. Full payment is required at the point of sale for in-store purchases. We accept cash and major debit and credit cards.

Title of goods. Ownership of goods passes to the buyer only upon receipt of full payment.

Servicing & Repairs

Estimates. A free estimate will be provided before any work commences. We will not begin work without your agreement. Where additional work is identified during a service, we will contact you to discuss before proceeding.

Labour charges. Service prices are for labour only unless otherwise stated. Parts, consumables, and replacement components are charged separately at cost.

Turnaround times. Estimated turnaround times are given in good faith but are not guaranteed. Delays may occur when waiting for parts or during busy periods. We will communicate with you if a significant delay arises.

Collection. Bicycles should be collected promptly once you are informed that work is complete. Maidenhead Cycles cannot accept responsibility for bicycles left on the premises for more than 30 days after completion of work.

Uncollected bicycles. If a bicycle is not collected within 60 days of notification of completion, and no contact has been made, Maidenhead Cycles reserves the right to recover storage and service costs from the value of the bicycle.

Your property. While your bicycle is in our care, we take reasonable precautions to ensure its safety. However, Maidenhead Cycles cannot be held liable for pre-existing damage, deterioration of aged components, or loss caused by events beyond our reasonable control.

Returns & Refunds

New goods. If you purchase new goods (including clothing and accessories) that are faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose, you are entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Vintage & used goods. Used bicycles and vintage parts are sold as seen. We will disclose known defects but the nature of vintage goods means that hidden wear or age-related issues may exist. This does not affect your rights where goods are significantly not as described.

Change of mind. We are not obliged to accept returns for change of mind on in-store purchases. Where we do so at our discretion, goods must be returned unused and in original condition within 14 days, and a credit note may be offered rather than a refund.

Services. Once a service or repair has been completed, we are unable to refund the labour charge. If you have concerns about work carried out, please raise them with us promptly so we can address them.

How to return. Please contact us before returning any goods. Returns should be brought to the shop in person at Maidenhead, SL6 4SA. We do not currently operate a postal returns service for bicycles or large components.

Warranty

Service warranty. All servicing and repair work carried out by Maidenhead Cycles is warranted for 30 days from the date of completion. If a fault directly attributable to our workmanship becomes apparent within this period, we will rectify it at no additional charge.

Parts supplied by us. Replacement parts sourced and fitted by Maidenhead Cycles carry the benefit of any manufacturer's warranty, which we will pass on to you. Most modern components carry a 12-month manufacturer's warranty; vintage or used components are sold without warranty unless otherwise stated.

What the warranty does not cover. Our service warranty does not cover:

  • Normal wear and tear following completion of work
  • Damage resulting from accident, misuse, neglect, or modification
  • Failure of components not supplied or fitted by Maidenhead Cycles
  • Pre-existing age-related deterioration of vintage parts
  • Consumables including tyres, inner tubes, brake pads, and cables

Customer-supplied parts. Where a service is carried out using parts supplied by the customer, Maidenhead Cycles accepts no responsibility for the suitability or performance of those parts and no warranty is provided in relation to them.

Your Legal Rights

Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by anything in these terms. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. If they are not, you have the right to a repair, replacement, or — in some circumstances — a full or partial refund.

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, a right to cancel within 14 days applies to goods purchased at a distance (online or by phone) or off-premises. These regulations do not apply to purchases made in our shop in the ordinary course.

If you have a complaint or dispute that we are unable to resolve to your satisfaction, you may refer the matter to an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) scheme or seek advice from Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk) or Trading Standards.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury resulting from our negligence, or for any matter where it would be unlawful to do so.
